Sfax International Marathon Helps Boosts Tunisia Sports Tourism

The Sfax International Olive Trees Marathon is getting wider acceptance across the world and more runners from the different part of the globe are showing interest in the race.

For the 6th edition of Sfax Marathon held earlier in January, a new circuit was inaugurated-Sfax – Sidi Mansour.

Sidi Mansour is a city, a village, a hamlet, it is above all one of the most beautiful heritage of Tunisia and the City of Sfax.

It was quite delightful to see Tunisian Women emerge as the top winners at the 6th Sfax Marathon 2019,

This feat is quite historic as Chafia HENDAOUI in 3:35:21 claimed the 1st position, Yosra MOUNI in 3:40:21 and Olfa CHAMAIRI in 4: 35: 24 were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Those Women Tunisian runners are the expression of the Tunisian challenge, but to overcome the 42Km195 is a challenge that they managed throughout the race and that happiness we saw on the arrival of the 3rd runner-up Olfa CHAMAIRI who succeeds her 1st Marathon of her life in Sfax.

For men, it’s a sporty podium where time for some runners, dedication, the will to conquer in his own adversity for others, make a dream come true and succeed in crossing the finish line with the pleasure of having accomplished a feat.

Algerian Abed Al HACHEMI won this 6th edition of the Sfax Marathon with a time of 2:38:13, Mohamed BEN AMOR V1-2nd in 2:41:21, and Hatem NASRALLAH Handisport will cross the finish line in 3rd position with a time of 2:44:21.

In the Half-Marathon, the Tunisian women were the top finishers; claiming the first three positions

Nada OMRI ESF Tunisia’s youngest elite won in a time of 1:28:31, followed by Dhekra HAMMOUDA ESF 1:35:27 and in 3rd Mouna KORTAS SEF in 1: 40:21.

For Men an international Maghrebian podium, Tunisian Mohamed :09:38, Moroccan Ait Lahaj AZZEDDIN at 1:09:47 and finally the Algerian Houssin HALLOUFI with a timing of 1:10:35

For this year’s race in Sfax, runners came from India, Belarus, France, Spain and a large delegation from Algeria were present.

Also, more runners Morocco, Ivory Coast, Gabon … and all over of Tunisia all participated

Tunisia is fast building a new identity of sports tourism and moving forward with all its youth in the construction of a new sporting identity that brings a whole country young and old to a new horizon of hope for a better life.

The enthusiasm of young runners and runners passing the finish line to experience thrills will be the most beautiful moments, those who discover the pleasure of running, to succeed their first race regardless of the distance, whatever the social origin from where they come, the race belongs to him and he is alone in front of his challenge with the unique aims of crossing the finish line.

Whether he is the first or the last, they have all succeeded in their challenge. At the age of 84, Mohamed Kasdagli once again came to Sfax to be honoured by his presence and to show to the youth people to fight against cigarettes.

Naamen BOUHAMED Sports Med Events Managing Director thanked as always to all the volunteers without whom the Sfax marathon cannot take place.

He said “Our thanks also go to the security authorities, Sekkiet Eddeir Red Crescent, to our Kines always devoted, a thought to Abid who was wounded by wishing him a good recovery.
